After spending three and a half years at UK taking multiple Gender and Women’s Studies courses, I wanted to combine the information I’ve learned about feminism with my skills in graphic design. For my capstone project, I have chosen to create a series of four posters in Adobe Illustrator. Each poster is 11x17 and utilizes the same art style and color scheme. All of my posters deal with subtopics in feminism: intersectionality, class, race, and disability.
One of my favorite things about taking Gender and Women’s Studies courses is that you are always encouraged to grow and change your perspective as you become more educated on relevant topics. I wanted to take that same mindset and inject it in my work. My posters are meant to be aesthetically pleasing, but they are also meant to educate viewers and encourage them to think critically about feminism, as well as examine the opinions they already hold on feminism. The information included in each poster is short enough to not bore readers, but captures the most important points about each topic. The accompanying art illustrates a concept or idea for each topic as well. While the posters will be showcased digitally, there will also be physical copies printed and displayed.
