Artist Statement
Taking cues from Ecological Art movements of the 1960s and ’70s, contemporary Ecofeminist discourse, and humanities-based ecological studies, I work to illuminate the urgency of preserving the natural world by deciphering the global environmental crisis, as seen through objects, interior spaces, and landscapes. Presented as an origin-based examination, my work asks essential questions about how the functions of objects and space inform, mirror, and tend to the human condition. Through examining the history of how humans have shaped and are shaping the environment, I am interested in the temporal, corporeal, and spatial notions of history, time, and site and what they may illuminate about the present. My work centers on the inquiry; How do we create space? What is the shape of the exchange that takes place between the environment and human activity? What are the histories of these relationships, and how can we better create space for each other?
