Artist's Statement
"Through my recent experiences within my creative practice, I have chosen to explore various mediums of art and the specific artistic process used in order to create a piece that is both meaningful and purposeful. In becoming a future art educator, my creative practice is not one that is focused on one particular medium or message, rather, I have explored various mediums so that I may better understand them individually to teach one day, including; sculpture, fibers, screen printing, painting, drawing, and photography. I truly enjoy having that ability to constantly explore new artistic processes and expand my knowledge within my creative practice rather than being confined to one specific media. Through this integrated style of art-making, I have been able to form deeper, personal connections with my art, my surroundings, and the various meanings of each individual piece and to better understand the contrast between each medium.
My latest artworks have been achieved through the exploration of two-dimensional drawings, focusing on the human form and figure, investigating what our world looks like through a camera lens and how light and color can manipulate an image in order to create something so abstract and celestial, as well as, through the manipulation of three-dimensional forms to create artworks that are both representational and conceptual to the viewer. I find that my artworks do not share a general theme, however, I choose to depict a particular feeling or idea within my piece based on its specific medium or relevant public or personal issues at the time of creation. It is through this artistic style that I find I connect deeply and personally with each piece individually, because each piece teaches me something, whether it be patience, freedom, creativity, etc., while then allowing me to express myself and feel a specific way each time, whether it be frustrated, joyful, disconnected, etc. Each time a new piece is created, I discover something new about my inner-self. I use art as a way of exploration and discovery of myself, focusing on who I once was, who I am, and who I want to be. My creative process is used as a way of identification, and the thing I am identifying is me."
