Under the Radar is my design project for a music festival concept. I created this project for myself to showcase my layout and logo design. I wanted to create an event that was a fun, vibrant way to showcase up and coming artists. The music festival takes place on the border of Utah and Arizona. The project features a logo design, posters, wristbands, a map, an Instagram ad and signage for use in the concert.
The design choices for this event were inspired by retro, neon logo design. This is reflected both in the color scheme and layouts. I started my process by working through logo designs that felt evocative of this style. I wanted the colors and layout to feel representative of vintage neon business signage. Additionally, I used typography that is similar to those used for tourist postcards in this area. Many of these vintage postcards used a smaller, more angular font for the greeting and a large, bolded font with dimension for the main location. This is reflected in my font choices for “under the” and “radar.”
The logo speaks to the location and overall atmosphere of event itself. The location of the event is also portrayed through the cacti, bright sun, and mountain range in elements throughout the work. Similar elements are used in each individual element of the event to keep a sense of cohesiveness.
